Question: Why does my FPV video break up when I bank the wing?
Answer: Video break-up during banking is usually caused by the FPV transmitter's antenna orientation and signal obstruction. When you bank your wing, the antenna’s line of sight to the receiver may be blocked or weakened, reducing signal strength. To fix this, first check your antenna placement: position the FPV transmitter antenna vertically and away from metal parts or carbon fibre that can block signals. Use a circularly polarised antenna on both the transmitter and receiver to improve signal stability in different orientations. Also, ensure your receiver antenna is mounted high and clear of obstructions on your goggles or ground station. If you’re using a patch or directional antenna, try switching to an omni-directional one to maintain better connection during manoeuvres. Finally, verify your transmitter power and channel settings comply with local regulations and are suitable for your flying range. Testing with a buddy or in an open field can help identify if signal loss occurs only during certain angles, confirming antenna orientation as the issue.
