Question: Why is my TPU 3D print stringy and messy?
Answer: TPU is flexible and prone to stringing if settings aren’t dialled in. Start by lowering your print temperature by 5-10°C to reduce oozing—try around 210-230°C depending on your filament. Increase retraction distance and speed carefully; TPU needs slower retraction (e.g. 1-3mm at 20-30mm/s) to avoid jams but enough to pull back filament. Enable 'Combing' mode if your slicer has it to minimise travel across open gaps. Also, increase travel speed to reduce time the nozzle spends moving over gaps (try 150-200mm/s). Make sure your filament path is direct and your extruder is clean to prevent dragging. Finally, adjust print speed down slightly (20-30 mm/s) for better control. Test these changes one at a time to find the best balance. Proper cooling with a part fan on low can also help solidify strands quickly and reduce stringing.
