How to fix stringy and messy TPU 3D prints

Question: Why is my TPU 3D print stringy and messy?

Answer: Stringy, messy prints with TPU usually result from incorrect retraction settings and printing temperatures. TPU is flexible, so it requires gentle handling. First, reduce your print temperature in 5°C steps, starting around 210°C, as too high a temperature causes excessive oozing. Next, adjust retraction: lower the retraction distance to about 1-2 mm, and slow down the retraction speed to around 15-20 mm/s to prevent filament grinding or clogging. Also, increase travel speed to minimise stringing during moves. Make sure your print bed is clean and use a brim or raft if needed to help adhesion. Finally, enable combing or wipe nozzle features in your slicer to reduce unnecessary stringing. Test these settings one at a time to find the right balance for your printer and TPU brand. With careful tuning, your prints will come out clean and well-defined.
